As Akwa Ibom State concluded the 32-day Christmas Unplugged festival with the celebration of Uyo Day 2025, Uyo Local Government Area (LGA) has promised to deliver the highest vote for Governor Umo Eno come 2027.
Speaking at the event, held at the Village Square, Christmas Park, Uyo, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, described the Christmas Unplugged initiative especially Uyo day as a fulfillment of the aspirations of the forefathers of Uyo people for unity and peaceful coexistence.
In a release by the Governor’s Media Unit, the SSG commended Governor Eno for his commitment to tourism development, and economic growth said the event has enhanced cultural preservation.
While expressing gratitude to the Governor for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom to the world also thanked the State Chief Executive for the numerous developmental strides recorded in Uyo LGA under his watch.
He assured the people of Uyo of more dividends of democracy under the current administration and expressed confidence that the Local Government Area would deliver massive support for Governor Umo Eno in the 2027 elections.
“Today, Uyo has become one united local government. I thank His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, for putting this together to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world and for the things he has done for the people of Uyo. As SSG, I can tell you authoritatively that we have never had it this good,” he said.
Also speaking, Chairman of Uyo LGA, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, said the event was aimed at projecting the cultural and economic potentials of Uyo to the global audience.
According to him, Christmas Unplugged has significantly boosted tourism and economic activities in the State, with increased visitor traffic and full hotel occupancy during the festive period.
On his part, the Delivery Advisor to the Governor on Tourism, Mr. Charles Udoh, noted that Christmas Unplugged has provided a platform for preserving indigenous culture despite the pressures of urbanisation.
In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Okon, also commended Governor Umo Eno for his cordial relationship with traditional rulers and his inclusive leadership style, calling on the people to support the Governor’s return to the Hilltop Mansion in 2027.
In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for the opportunity to serve and for prioritising tourism, which he said has made the Ministry more active and impactful.
He thanked stakeholders for their collaboration and urged continued support for Governor Eno’s administration.
The event was attended by prominent personalities, including Member Representing Uyo in AKHA, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, Immediate Past Chairman of the Local Government Civil Service Commission, Hon. Monday Eyo; wife of the SSG, Dr. Inemesit Uwah; Chairman of the UCCDA, Hon. Anietie Eka; Former Chairman of Uyo, Hon. Ekerete Ekpenyong, Traditional Rulers led by the Paramount Ruler of Uyo; Aides to the Governor led by SSA to the Governor on Entrepreneurial Development, Mr. Ime Uwah; as well as Elders, Women, Youth groups, Students, and other stakeholders.
The Uyo Day 2025 which commenced with a cultural procession from Aka Junction at Udo Udoma Avenue to the Village Square featured; choir renditions, historical recitations of Uyo, cultural performances, traditional dances, inspection of indigenous delicacies, fashion parade, eating competition, and a chronological presentation of villages and village heads in Uyo Local Government Area.
