UNICAL VC Pledges Zero Tolerance for Unethical Practices, Invites Monarchs to 38th Convocation

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar , Prof Offiong Efanga Offiong, has pledged zero tolerance for unethical practices in the institution, assuring that his administration will maintain the highest standards of integrity.

He made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, at his country home in Adiabo. Ndidem of Calabar, His Royal Majesty, Ndidem Dr. Eta Bassey Eteta and the Muri Munene of the Efut Nation, Professor Itam Hogan Itam.

This was contained in three separate statements from the Public Relations unit of the University of Calabar made available to newsmen at weekend.

Prof Offiong stated that the ideals of his administration are anchored on God and expressed confidence that they will not be misled.

“You will not hear any verified account of endorsed awful practices perpetrated by us. My team and i will be committed to upholding the values of excellence and transparency”,  he said.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted the progress made by the institution and outlined plans to further improve its standing, saying lots of changes have taken place that will properly situate UNICAL in the comity of varsities and accelerate its progress.

He expressed gratitude to the First class Monarch for his support and counsel, which he said,  played a significant role in his appointment as Vice Chancellor.

In response, the Obong of Calabar praised Prof. Offiong for his thoughtful visit, describing him as a true son who has made significant contributions to the palace.

He assured the Vice Chancellor of the palace’s unwavering support and pledged to attend the thanksgiving service and convocation ceremony, urging the management team to rally behind him for success.

At the palace of the Ndidem of Calabar, Prof. Offiong appreciated the monarch’s support and he came back in the spirit of the one leper in the Bible who returned to give thanks to Jesus.

He explained that his visit was both symbolic and personal, a moment to formally present himself as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the university and to express appreciation for the encouragement he received.

“I came to seek support months ago, and now I return with a grateful heart to say, ‘it is well’,” he said.

In response, His Royal Majesty, Ndidem Dr. Eteta, thanked the Vice Chancellor for the honour of the visit and for the recognition accorded to the palace.

He assured Prof. Offiong of continued support and pledged his presence at both the thanksgiving and convocation ceremonies, wishing him success in his tenure.

Similarly, Professor Offiong, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Muri Munene of the Efut Nation, Professor Itam, pledging the institution’s commitment to fostering strong ties with traditional institutions.

During the visit, Prof. Offiong expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Father for the unwavering support extended to him throughout the process that led to his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar.

Prof. Offiong further commended the Monarch for his warm reception and continued support toward his administration, assuring him of full cooperation and an open-door relationship between the university and the Efut Royal Institution.

Receiving the Vice Chancellor and his team at the palace, Professor Itam expressed appreciation to the varsity helmsman for the honour of paying homage to him at his palace as the Muri Munene of the Efut Nation.

He affirmed that the entire Royal Cabinet and the host communities have pledged their full and unwavering support to Prof. Offiong’s administration as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Calabar.

The Royal Father further declared that Prof. Offiong’s emergence as the 12th Vice Chancellor of Unical was divinely orchestrated, stating that his ascension to the position was not a product of chance but of a higher calling, noting that his reign would bring transformation, excellence, and renewed glory to the institution

Prof Offiong used the occasion of the visit to invite the three monarchs to a thanksgiving service on March 21, and the 38th Convocation ceremony scheduled for April 18, requesting their presence at both events.
