PDP Former Governorship Aspirant in Cross River, Resigns From the Party

Former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2023 governorship election in Cross River State, Dr. Mkpang Coco-Bassey has finally
resigned from the PDP.

In a letter dated March 12, 2026, addressed to the Chairman, Ward 11, Calabar, in Calabar South Local Government Area, of the State, Dr Coco-Bassey, an Engineer by profession, President of Calabar forum in the United kingdom and founder of the Coco-bassey foundation said, “I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the PDP, Ward 11, Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State”.

He said, “this decision did not come lightly. I have been a committed and faithful member of the party, contributing my time, energy, and resources to its growth and success at both the ward and local levels. I deeply value the relationships and experiences I gained during my time with the PDP”.

In the resignation letter which the State Chairman of the PDP was copied, Dr. Coco-Bassey, said “please accept this letter as a formal notification of my resignation from the PDP. effective immediately.

“I remain grateful for the opportunities and support I received while in the party, and I wish the PDP continued success in its future endeavors”.

When asked of the way forward and his next political platform, Dr. Coco-Bassey said, his aim is “to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition aligning with the likes of His Excellency Peter Obi and others to serve Nigeria and rescue crossriverians by changing and implementing actionable Economic policies from consumption to production. This will alleviate my people from the hardship that they are currently facing in my State” .
