Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has charged journalists on the need to uphold the highest standards of journalism ethics.
In a goodwill message to the Cross River State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on its 2025 Media Week, Odey said, “as we celebrate press freedom, I encourage you to uphold the highest standards of journalism ethics, ensuring that the pursuit of truth and accuracy remains paramount”.
The Deputy Governor who said this at the Public Conference of the Day Six, May 8 of the media week celebration in Calabar, opined : “Let us work together to promote responsible journalism, avoiding the dissemination of unverified news that can undermine public trust and stability”.
He commended the tireless efforts of journalists in shaping public discourse, promoting transparency, and holding those in power accountable, saying, “your dedication to truth-telling is invaluable to our democracy”.
He said, “as you mark this occasion, I assure you of the Sen. Prince Bassey Otu-led administration’s commitment to partnership and collaboration with your union for the good of our communities.
“We value your role in nation-building and we will continue to work with you in promotion of development, good governance, and the welfare of our citizens”.
On behalf of Governor Otu and the government of Cross River State, Odey wished journalists a successful Media Week celebration.
