Team Nigeria women’s wrestling head coach, Purity Akuh, is in Japan on the invitation of the World Wrestling Governing body (UWW) to participate as an educator at the International Wrestling Training camp.
According to the organisers, the camp opened from Oct. 30 to Nov. 12 in Japan.
This testifies to Nigeria’s global relevance in wrestling which has continued to be on the rise.
Similarly, Nigeria’s women wrestlers, Mercy Genesis and Asaolu Esther, were invited to participate in the training camp to broaden their technical knowledge and cultural integration.
Akuh’s recognition as one of the educators at the Training Camp in Japan also attests to how Nigeria’s wrestling is rated globally.
The newly-inaugurated board member of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation will be putting his wealth of experience to impact young wrestlers and national team coaches of Japan – a nation with a rich wrestling heritage
Akuh, alongside the two invited Nigeria national team wrestlers, arrived in Japan on Oct. 31.
He expressed pride at the opportunity to impact people beyond the shores of Nigeria.
“This recognition is not only a personal honour but also a significant achievement for our Wrestling Federation and our country at large.
“It is my pleasure to contribute to the global development of wrestling by sharing knowledge, enhancing technical skills, and promoting collaboration among athletes, coaches, and referees from around the world,” Akuh said.
