The Akwa Ibom State Government has recorded major strides in youth empowerment and tourism to attract visitors and stimulate the local economy.
Disclosing this on Comfort 95.1 FM’s Arise Akwa Ibom show, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr. Essien Ndueso, said the administration of Governor Pastor Umo Eno has already surpassed several campaign promises by implementing targeted support programmes for young entrepreneurs, farmers, and small business owners across all local government areas.
Dr. Ndueso outlined completed youth-focused interventions, including the Ibom-LED training for 800 young people, each receiving ₦500,000 after successfully completing entrepreneurship courses.
He added that 400 more female beneficiaries received ₦750,000 each.
He further highlighted the Federal Constituencies Town-Hall Grants, where traders, farmers, and transport operators received between ₦250,000 and ₦750,000, while selected high-performing entrepreneurs were awarded ₦5 million to expand their businesses.
The SSA also referenced the statewide mega empowerment programmes, including the ₦5 million grant given to a female truck driver at the Uyo Township Stadium, noting that these interventions were designed to build “real entrepreneurs at the grassroots” and stimulate commerce especially as the state enters its bustling December season.
According to him, the festive activities beginning with the Christmas unplugged will open fresh opportunities for vendors, entertainers, artisans, and small businesses.
“This month brings a full economic cycle. People spend, people sell, and new businesses emerge.
“The governor is intentionally creating the environment for businesses to thrive,” he said.
Dr. Ndueso also commended the recent upgrade of the Victor Attah International Airport by the federal government, describing it as a significant boost to the state’s tourism and investment aspirations.
The new status, he explained, will make Akwa Ibom more accessible to tourists, filmmakers, investors, and returning citizens adding that recent film productions shot in the state already showcase its growing creative and tourism appeal.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to expanding economic opportunities, he noted that with robust empowerment programmes, a booming festive season, and an upgraded international airport, Akwa Ibom is fully positioned for increased tourism, business expansion, and youth prosperity.
