The high expectations that greeted the Female Yellow Greens’ initial journey towards ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ended Wednesday after a bitter defeat to a more clinical Zimbabwe team.
Nigeria lost by 10 wickets after their expected top batters failed to show up great performance. Salome Sunday and Piety Lucky were very unfortunate as they were dismissed easily by a very tactful opponent. Nigerias total score was 90 all out in 19.5 overs. Nigeria’s only hero was Sarah Ekwere, the wicket keeper who scored 25 runs.
After the inning break, Zimbabwe finished up in style with just two batters playing out 93 runs in 14.2overs without losing wickets. Ndlovu and Mapaachikwa made it look so easy to the envy of their opponent Nigeria.
While Nigeria’s journey came to an end, Zimbabwe and Namibia have qualified from Group A to join top two teams of Group B ( Most likely, Uganda and Tanzania), for a play off to determine Africa’s two representatives for the ICC Global Qualifiers in Nepal.
Nigeria’s next match against Kenya will be for rankings.
