The Cross River State Diaspora Commission (CRIDCOM) has announced a robust lineup of programmes aimed at promoting investment, cultural reconnection, and educational exchange between the state and its diaspora communities.
The lineup of activities was unveiled by the Commission Chairman, Prince Otu Okor, during a courtesy visit to Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center in Calabar, Tuesday.
Prince Okor emphasized the critical role of the media in disseminating the Commission’s message, asserting that good media partnerships are essential to the success and visibility of their initiatives and programmes.
He listed key highlights of the upcoming programmes to include the commissioning of CRIDCOM office space located at 75 MCC Road, Calabar, on September 4, 2025.
He said that from October 10 – 19, 2025 the Commission will host 300 diaspora members from the Caribbean, many of whom have lost touch with their ancestral roots in Cross River. The programme includes, participation in the Ndigbo festival in Lagos from October 10 – 12.
“An official state reception and courtesy visit to the Governor on October 12 – 13. Traditional induction ceremonies across the three senatorial districts on October 14. An investment summit themed “Invest Cross River” on October 15 at Channel View Hotel involving diaspora entrepreneurs keen on business opportunities within the state.
“A feast showcasing traditional Cross River cuisines and a fashion show celebrating African traditional wear on October 16. Educational exchange programme discussions and a musical concert organized by the Cross River Carnival Commission on October 17. Media briefing and Market Day involving all 18 local governments on October 18, providing a platform for local artisans and traders to showcase and sell their products.
“A thanksgiving and reconciliation service followed by a grand Carnival parade dry run on October 19, featuring Caribbean carnival costumes and performances. Cross River State Diaspora Investment Summit will take place from November 16 – 18, 2025.”
The CRIDCOM boss stated that for the first time, the Commission will host the summit in London, UK, aiming to connect with investors, business groups, and economic stakeholders abroad to attract investments into the state.
He said Cross River State Diaspora Day would come between December 11 – 13, 2025, stating that the Day is a state-recognized event integrated into the annual Carnival Festival to honor diaspora contributions in areas like education, health, and energy development.
Prince Otu Okor highlighted that these programmes align with the Commission’s core mission of driving economic growth and supporting Governor Bassey Otu’s administration in transforming the state through increased investments and sustainable development.
Responding, Chairman of NUJ Cross River State Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, expressed strong support for the initiatives. She stressed the importance of media collaboration and pledged full commitment from journalists to partner with the Commission in amplifying these efforts. Bassey expressed confidence in the success of the programmes and their potential for boosting the state’s economy and visibility both nationally and internationally.
The comprehensive calendar of events from September through December 2025 promises a vibrant engagement of diasporans and locals alike, blending cultural heritage with economic and educational opportunities to reposition Cross River State as a preferred investment destination and cultural hub.
This series of initiatives is poised to significantly strengthen ties between Cross River and its diaspora, foster development, and showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage on a global platform.
