As the build up to 2027 general elections keep gathering momentum with defections, coalitions and alignments, the people of Bakassi have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey for a second term in 2027.

The move which re-affirms the right of citizens to participation in a democracy is coming at the eve of the 2nd anniversary of the inauguration of Mr. President and the Governors of the 36 states in the country.

It was a melting pot for Bakassi political thinkers, critical stakeholders and budding youth enthusiasts, with the Chairman of the Council area, Hon Effiong Okon, re-assuring Cross Riverians that “Bakassi has evolved from a once vulnerable region into a zone of peace.”

Moving the motion for the endorsement and vote of confidence on Mr. President and Governor Bassey Otu, a one time Senator for Cross River Southern Senatorial District, nicknamed Mama Bakassi, Senator Princess Florence Ita Giwa, expressed satisfaction over the leadership style and governance under President Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu.

The unanimous vote which was seconded by the member for Bakassi in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Eyo Bassey received acclamation from the Bakassi public as highpoint of the epochal endorsement ceremony.

Critical stakeholders and community leaders who graced the occasion included Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Enene Okon (Retired), Leader of Bakassi exodus from the peninsula, Chief Ani Esin, Commissioner for Establishment, Eti Eka (Mrs.) Lawrencia Ita, APC Chapter Chairman, Sir Gerald Esin, APC State Secretary, Pastor Patrick Asikpo Okon, One-time Chairman (Prince) Saviour Nyong, Special Adviser Health, Dr. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey and one-time chairman Mrs. Edisua Iso.

They all said in summary of goodwill messages that there was no vacancy for any aspirant to the presidency and in Government House, Calabar for 2027.

••• BAKASSI VOTE WIlL COUNT IN 2027
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Bakassi LGA, Hon. Effiong Etim Okon has given assurance that Bakassi vote would count in 2027, and noted that having a second term was an added value.

Apparently reflecting on the poor voting showing in the 2023 Presidential election, the Chairman said there was need to address cross-cutting edges as the local government marches to 2027.

In a well worded keynote address, the chairman observed; “Second term within a political tenure brings more added values for constituents within defined political delineation and office holders.”

According to the Chairman, “No leader can fix total development within tenure of four years.”

Leaders, he said, set foundations and work towards sustaining the foundations. He called for cooperation of the people in actualizing a second term for President Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027.
