Four students of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have been suspended over a case of assault.
A statement on Tuesday from the Public Relations Unlt of the University said, the Management of the University of Calabar announced the suspension of four students over their roles in the assault occasioning harm of one Abdulahi Lateef Olalekan, a 100 level student of the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science of the University..
The statement said already, the matter has been forwarded to the University’s Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.
According to separate letters of suspension addressed to the four suspended students, and signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, “the incident happened on the 5th of May, 2025 around the SUG, Secretariat at about 7pm”.
Management, according to the letter, views the act as “a gross misconduct and an unacceptable behavior in the University as enshrined in the Matriculation Oath sworn to by the students, and as indicated in the Students’ Handbook.
“The University Management has consequently directed that Ebenyin John Akpang – 500 level, Dept of Animal Science; Livingston Arikpo – 500 level, Dept of Fisheries & Aquaculture; Winston Churchill Ibiang – 200 level, Law and Success Johnson Usani, Dept of Human Physiology be suspended from the University immediately”.
The statement further stated that “the aforementioned students are to handover any university property in their possession to the Dean, Students’ Affairs before leaving the campus”.
