The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has said that there are enormous benefits for those who engage in sporting activities.

He spoke on Saturday morning at the Ibori Golf And Country Club, Asaba, where he performed the tee-off at the 2025 edition of the Captain’s Day Golf Tournament.

Onyeme, who said that he was impressed with the number of professional golfers converging in Asaba for the tournament, added that it was important for people to engage in sporting activities, as it allowed them to socialise and also, boost their health status.

He wished participants at the tournament a good outing and urged them to enjoy the hospitality that Delta is known for.

In a chat with newsmen, the Chairman of IGCC, Chief Patrick Ukah, said, “The essence of Captain’s Day Tournament is that all over the world, every Captain of the club must choose one day to celebrate the Captain’s Day where people will be invited for a big tournament such as this to celebrate your captainship.

“If you are a new Captain, it is combined with your inauguration, but this time, I am doing a second tenure as a Captain, so, this is my Captain’s Day.

“So, you can see other captains from different clubs, from Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, and across the federation.

“For us at the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, as part of our tourism drive, we encourage and attract people to see the new Delta State Capital, here, we have over 250 highly placed individuals and they have seen that Delta is a place to come to, and that is part of what this tournament is giving to us.

“We are going to have the Governor’s Cup next month, and it is going to be bigger, and we expect that some governors who play golf will be here.”
