In a heartwarming act of generosity, Mr. John Bassey, a former pupil of St. Patrick Primary School, Iboko-Offot, Abak Road, Uyo, has donated a range of essential educational materials to his alma mater.

Mr Bassey who is happy with Governor Umo Eno on his education reforms programme, said he was happy to complement his gestures.

The gesture, which reflects a deep sense of community and commitment to education, was made on Mr Bassey’s  behalf by the APC South South Zonal Secretary, Hon. Dr. Ita Udosen.

The donated items include desks, computers, laptops, chairs, and a power generator to support the school’s academic and digital infrastructure. The presentation took place last week Wednesday, July 23rd, during a brief but impactful ceremony attended by school staff, government officials, and community members.

Speaking on behalf of Mr. Bassey, Dr. Ita Udosen stated, “Mr. John Bassey graduated from this school and he has come back to give to his roots. Last week, we donated desks, computers, laptops, and chairs.

“Today, we are presenting a generator to power the school and ensure the computer systems can function effectively.

“In today’s world, computer literacy is essential, and this gesture gives our children an opportunity to expand their knowledge and become more vibrant members of society.”

Also present was Princess Victoria Utu, sister to the donor, who expressed pride in her brother’s continued commitment to community development.

“My brother has always been someone who gives back, so I am not surprised by this donation. He believes in education and the future of our children, and this is just one of the many ways he contributes,” she said.

The school’s headteacher, Mrs. Ekaette Bassey, expressed immense gratitude on behalf of the staff and students.

“I am so excited about this generous donation. It will be put to good use, and we will ensure that everything given is properly maintained. On behalf of the school, we say a heartfelt thank you.”

Also in attendance was Dr. Essien Ndueso, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, who praised the donor’s efforts and encouraged others to emulate such acts.

“Life has little meaning if it does not impact others. Mr. Bassey’s gesture aligns with the state’s vision for educational growth.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government is committed to educational development, as seen in the model schools and other ongoing reforms. We urge others in privileged positions to support this vision.”

This donation marks a significant boost for St. Patrick Primary School, especially in promoting computer literacy and creating a conducive learning environment for pupils.
