The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has ushered in new leadership, affirming former House of Representatives member Hon. Chris Sunny Etta as its state chairman.
The decision was reached on Tuesday during the party’s state congress, signaling a fresh chapter for the APC in the southern state.
Etta, who previously represented the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, emerged victorious at the congress held at the U.J. Esuene International Stadium in Calabar.
The event drew thousands of party members from across the state’s 18 local government areas, underscoring the significance of the internal election.
His election follows the recent completion of ward and local government congresses across the 18 LGAs in the state which are part of the APC’s broader nationwide reorganization efforts ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Party officials described the process as a critical step to reposition the party’s structures at all levels.
Describing the outcome, one congress official told our reporter shortly after the event saying, “The newly affirmed State Executives Committee members were sworn in promptly, as we witnessed here tonight”
“In line with the directive of the APC national leadership, all duly elected ward, local government, and state executives have been inaugurated without delay, in accordance with the party’s constitution,” another official noted.
Stakeholders have expressed optimism that his leadership of Etta will foster greater unity and strategic positioning of the party in the state.
“We believe the new chairman will strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the APC for future political engagements in Cross River,” a party insider remarked.
In his inaugural address, Etta pledged collaborative and inclusive leadership. “I will join hands with other EXCO members to ensure the APC continues to grow as the party of choice in the state,” he told supporters shortly after his emergence.
