The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has flagged-off the construction of the official residence for the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area (LGA).
This is to fast track and deepen stability, ensuring that, sustainable development is drawn closer, for rapid grassroots development.
Laying the foundation stone at the premises of the Gagara Hall, Etokebe Street, in Ikot Ekpene LGA, the Governor noted that the construction of the residential building, is to align governance with the people, boost and enhance more effective grassroots governance in the area.
The Governor who was represented by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Chief Whip, the Rt. Hon.Effiong Johnson noted that, the rural development plan of the State Government, as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda, would effectively be achieved in partnership with the Local Government Council, saying, “the presence of the Chairman residing in the Area will draw government closer to the people. Thereby ensuring rapid development of the area”.
Governor Umo Eno said, the construction of standard Chairmen’s Residences in all the local government areas is initiated to enhance accessibility and accountability at the grassroots and rural communities.
The State Governor reiterated his commitment to fulfilling all his promises made at Town-Square conducted across the 10 federal constituencies, in the state, stating that all projects initiated in all the Local Government Areas in the State will be completed in record time.
He urged youths, women, elderly, stakeholders, all citizens of Ikot Ekpene to take responsibility of government properties by securing them effectively .
The State Chief Executive reaffirmed his stand in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu administration, pledging his support for the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in the upcoming 2027 election.
In his remark, the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene LGA, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom who said that the Governor has fulfil his promise to build an official residence for all the Local Government Chairmen, also appreciated the Governor Eno for keeping to his campaign promises saying, “this will help to boost local government administration.”
He noted that, Governor Eno has recorded many laudable strides in the Local Government Area, including, The construction of Spring Road to Youth Friendly Centre, and commended him for awarding the Contract for the construction of International Market for Ikot Ekpene people.
Hon. Nkom reaffirmed support and endorsement of the people of Ikot Ekpene for the re-election of Governor Umo Eno for second term in office in 2027 election poll.
Goodwill messages were received from the Paramount Ruler of Ikot Ekpene, HRM Okuku Okon Udo Ukut, who led the Traditional Rulers Council to the event, Engr. Etido Inyang, and Obongawan Helen Asikpo, the chapter woman leader of the party.
Speaking on behalf of youths, Comrade Faith Akpan commended the Governor for strengthening the Local Government Area and ensuring that council leaders are more accessible to the communities they serve.
Each residence is designed to provide needs such as meeting hall, boys’ quarters, security post and generator house to providing conducive environment for administrative engagement and stakeholder interactions.
Others at the flagg off event include, all Councilors, all ward personal assistants to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, all ward Chairmen, all supervisors, Stakeholders, royal fathers, youths, women and the general public who came out en masse to witness the event.
