The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has expelled its impeached State Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Eba.
Similarly, the party also upheld the suspension of the State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa.
A release signed by the State APC, Publicity Secretary, Caretaker, Hon Emmanuel Edem Inyang, said the State Caretaker Committee under the Leadership of Ntufam Ojogu, of the APC in the State, convened a meeting at the Party Secretariat on Monday December 22 and took these crucial decisions.
At the meeting, the Committee resolved to “expel the embattled former State Chairman, Barr. Eba from the party”.
This decision followed the invocation of “Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution (as amended on 26 March 2022) in a motion ably moved by Dr. Abubakar Efoli, Vice Chairman of the Party representing the Central Senatorial District and Seconded by Dr. Joseph Idagu Ogar , Youth Leader North”.
The cited constitutional provision states, inter alia, that “any member who institutes legal action against the party or any of its officers on matters relating to the discharge of party duties, without first exhausting the internal mechanisms for redress provided by the Constitution, shall automatically stand expelled upon the filing of such action”.
Furthermore, “no appeal against such expulsion shall be entertained until the member withdraws the action from court.
“Based on this provision, the Committee affirmed the expulsion of Mr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba”.
In a related development, the Committee considered a formal correspondence from the Chapter Chairman, Chief Engr. Kelvin Njong JP of BOKI LGA concerning the suspension of the State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa.
Dr. Diwa was alleged to have engaged in gross misconduct at the ward level, including an assault that occasioned harm to the Ward Chairman, Mr. James Abang.
After due consideration, the State Caretaker Committee upheld the suspension of Dr. Diwa from the party, pending the outcome and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee.
The Committee reiterates its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the provisions of the APC Constitution.
