Abasi People Foundation (APF), a non religious and political organization, has declared that the completion of the Ibom Deep Seaport is a covenant between President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno with the people of Akwa Ibom state.
Senator Akpabio had during the recent funeral ceremony of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor’s mother in Akwa lbom State,
declared that the only request from Akwa Ibom people to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, is the completion of the Ibom Deep Seaport.
The Senate President delivered this message through Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the funeral.
Accordingly, the APF comprising, Ibibio, Annang, Efik, Oro, Ekoi, Ekid, and Obolo ethnic groups, warmly welcomes this recent public commitment by the Senate President saying, the Akwa Ibom will definitely reciprocate this gesture if it comes to pass as demanded by Senator Akpabio.
The Foundation in a statement issued by its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Victor Udo, viewed this statement not merely as “a political comment but as a binding moral contract and covenant between President Tinubu, the Senate President and Governor Umo Eno with the people of Akwa Ibom”.
In essence, the Foundation declared, “deliver the Deep Seaport before 2027 and the people will deliver a united, massive vote in 2027”.
APF therefore called on President Tỉnubu, Vice President Shettima, Senate President Akpabio, and Governor Eno to turn this declaration into an immediate, visible action by ensuring that site mobilization and physical development of the Deep Seaport commences before the 2027 elections.
The Foundation expressed the believe that if the project begins in carnest with clear milestones and tangible progress, “the people of Akwa Ibom will respond with gratitude, unity, and renewed trust in leadership through a historic voter turnout in 2027 for President Tinubu”.
.The Foundation further maintained that the Deep Seaport represents far more than infrastructure; “it is a symbol of hope, a gateway to jobs, trade, industrial expansion and maritime empowerment across the Abasi Nation.
“It stands as the single most transformative project capable of revitalizing the regional economy and restoring public confidence in government promises”.
It urged all stakeholders- from traditional institutions to community and youth groups to rally behind this shared vision and hold leadership accountable to this covenant with the people.
