The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has commended the captain and the entire members of the Calabar Golf club for using golf to popularise Utomo Obong anniversary.
The Obong who gave the commendation soon after teeing off this year’s edition of Utomo Obong golf competition that attracted golfers across the country, said that he will continue to partner the club in an effort to give the game the needed boost and lauded the members for the honour accorded him.
The Obong who was represented by the Chairman, Obong of Calabar Executive Forum, High Chief Gershom Henshaw used the Occasion to thank the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu for not only sustaining the Carnival Calabar but also for making the Utomo Obong anniversary an integral part of the festival.
He also showered praises on the sponsors Ibom Air, ECM Terminal and KABOM Developers for their support adding that their involvement has added value to the big event.
The Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, ENGR Bassey Nkposong in his remarks thanked the Obong of Calabar for sustaining the Utomo Obong golf competition which he revealed is one of the biggest event in the Nation’s golf Calendar.

The Captain used the occasion to congratulate the Obong on the 14th Utomo Obong anniversary stressing that the Club will Continue to support him and appealed to the entire people to key into this wonderful programme aimed at giving the Treaty King and Patriarch of the Efik Eburutu Kingdom the honour he deserved.
At the end of the big Championship which covered 18 holes, the Captain Of the Calabar Golf Club, Engr. Nkposong entered the history books by emerging the Overall Winner with a nett score of 68.
In the veteran category Patrick Iwara recorded 69 nett to emerge the Champion on count back while Ekanem Ikpeme was 2nd with 69 nett. Mike Mutoni was 3rd.
Fidel Udie was the winner in category 1 – 18 with a score of 71 nett while Kayode Bello and Anietie Okon were placed 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Highlights of the Occasion featured the presentation of prizes to those who excelled.
